Buildings always belong to one castle and only work there: a Quarry produces for its own castle, a Construction office only speeds up construction on site. So you develop every castle on its own – and can give each one a job, for example as a resource supplier, a troop forge or a research castle. How to manage several castles is explained under Castles.
How building works
You order new levels in your Construction office. For that you need Stone, Wood and Ore in the castle, enough free settlers and a free construction site. You pay as soon as you place the order. Many buildings also have requirements – the fact sheet on each building page lists them, along with what the building itself is required for.
- Build queue: two orders run at the same time, up to four with premium and an extra build slot. Details and instant build: Build queue & instant build.
- Construction sites: every building level takes up one site. Once they are all used, only an expansion or a demolition helps – see Construction sites and Demolishing buildings.
- Settlers: most building levels tie up settlers, just like your troops. Your Living quarters decides how many you have.
- Points: every finished level earns castle points for the rankings (Points & rankings).
Where do I start?
In the beginning, resource production is what counts: upgrade your Sawmill, Quarry and Mine evenly – the game itself recommends getting them to at least level 15 early on. Keep your Storehouse big enough for a night's production and upgrade your Living quarters along with it so you don't run out of settlers. After that, a higher Construction office pays off with shorter build times, plus Barracks and a Wall for your safety. More tips under Getting started.
How to read the level tables
Under “Levels at a glance”, every building page lists the cost of upgrading to each level, the build time, the settlers that level ties up and the castle points it earns. The last column shows the effect – such as output, storage space or time saved – as the total value at that level. Choose your Construction office level and your world above and the values adjust instantly. Premium, Athanor and event bonuses are not included.
