Catapults
War over the walls: catapults bombard buildings and walls – and defend your castle from safe cover.

Catapults are the only unit that can attack buildings. Like Battering rams they also damage the Wall, but they bring some attack power as well. At home they fire on attackers from inside the protected castle and so also count towards your defence. In return they are slow, expensive and take up ten settlers each – more than any other unit.
Choosing targets
When you attack, you decide which buildings your catapults aim at; how many targets you can set depends on your Military training grounds. Hiding place, Treasury and Throne cannot be bombarded, and the defender can protect some buildings in his battle settings. Damaged construction sites must be repaired by their owner before he can build there again.
You use catapults to weaken an enemy's buildings – for example to shrink a castle before a conquest until your senator is able to take it over (see Siege: rams and catapults). They are not allowed on wild animal hunts. They hit Zmei Gorynytsch hard, but achieve nothing against the other dragons.
Weapon research in the laboratory
| Stage | Research | Bonus per stage | Stone | Wood | Ore | Research time | Requirements |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Strengthened handgrips | +5 attack, +20 siege, +30 defence | 10,500 | 7,560 | 9,450 | 8 h 23 min | Catapult workshop 3 Laboratory 1 |
| 2 | Double-braided rope | +5 attack, +20 siege, +30 defence | 21,000 | 15,120 | 18,900 | 16 h 46 min | Catapult workshop 8 Laboratory 5 |
| 3 | Stronger spring mechanism | +5 attack, +20 siege, +30 defence | 84,000 | 60,480 | 75,600 | 1 d 9 h 33 min | Catapult workshop 13 Laboratory 10 |
Each stage is researched once per castle and adds its bonus to every unit of this type in that castle. Choose your laboratory level and world above and the research times adjust.
