Templar
The guardians of the sacred sites: tough, affordable defenders that only exist in castles with a sanctuary.

You recruit Templar in the Barracks, but only in a castle with a sanctuary. Templars are defenders through and through: lots of defence for only two settlers, plus a moderate attack. Like Archers, they benefit especially from a high Wall. In return they are slow and carry little.
There are several ways to get a sanctuary: you found a castle on such a field (the construction wagon map shows them), you use a “Sanctuary” upgrade from your stock, or you turn a castle into an amber castle – it automatically becomes a sanctuary. Read more under Special castles.
Strengths and weaknesses
- + Lots of defence for few settlers, plus the special advantage behind the wall.
- – Only available in a few castles, slow, and their research requires high building levels.
Templars are made to defend their castle. On wild animal hunts they may join against wolves and wisents. Against the Wawel-Dragon they are among the strongest troops, they help a little against the Shadow-Keeper, and hardly at all against the other dragons.
