Light infantry
The cheapest unit in the game: solid defence and plenty of carrying capacity for few resources – the backbone of every young castle.

Light infantry is the first unit your Barracks trains, and it stays useful for the whole game. A single spearman is weak, but he costs next to nothing, needs only one settler and is recruited quickly. Measured by price, he is one of the best defenders there is.
Strengths and weaknesses
- + Very cheap and quick to train – ideal for building an early defence.
- + Lots of carrying capacity for the price: good for your first plunder raids and bandit camps.
- – Weak attack; against strong opponents only numbers help.
In defence you field spearmen in large numbers, ideally backed up by Swordsmen and Archers. On wild animal hunts they may join against wolves, boars and aurochs. Against dragons they pay off mainly against Zmei Gorynytsch, where they are among the most effective troops for their price; they help a little against the Shadow-Keeper, but not at all against the Wawel-Dragon or the Glowtail.

Each stage is researched once per castle and adds its bonus to every unit of this type in that castle. Choose your laboratory level and world above and the research times adjust.
