Beginner protection
From your start in a world you are under beginner protection: no player can attack you, spy on you or put a dragon curse on you – and during that time you can't attack players either. On The Crusades and Venturia the protection lasts 14 days, on Bloodlust one day. The world data in the game show the value for your world.
Attack range
Even afterwards you can't attack everyone. The game compares your military strength: if the opponent is much stronger or much weaker than you, they are out of your range. Members of the same alliance may always attack each other, and a world's top players may also fight each other.
A coloured dot in front of players and castles shows you where you stand: dark green – in range, light green – your alliance, yellow – only their recently conquered castles can be attacked, red – out of range, black – suspended player.
Contested and grey castles
If a castle has changed hands within the last 14 days, it counts as contested: anyone may attack it, no matter how strong its new owner is. If the original owner wins it back, it is no longer contested for them. Grey castles without an owner can be attacked by anyone anyway (inactivity). What this means for conquerors is explained under Conquest.
Other protection rules
- Main castles can't be conquered, and neither can amber castles.
- Settlements can neither attack nor be attacked while their protection lasts.
- On Bloodlust only castles with a Throne fight: without a throne you can't attack players and won't be attacked either.
- If you capitulate, you can't be attacked for a while – but you can't attack anyone either.
- Night bonus: between midnight and 8 a.m. in the defender's time zone, defenders fight harder. The battle report tells you whether the bonus was active.
