Battering rams

No way through without rams: they break the defender's wall and clear the path for conquest.

Battering rams

Battering rams have exactly one job: tearing down the enemy's Wall. They have no attack value against troops, but a high siege value instead. Without rams you can hardly beat well-protected castles and cannot conquer any foreign castle – because Senators only take effect once the wall is down to level 0.

Strengths and weaknesses

  • + Essential against the wall and therefore for every conquest.
  • – Like Catapults, the slowest unit in the game, expensive as well and with no carrying capacity at all.

In battle, rams and catapults go for the wall first. So bring enough rams to bring the wall down, and enough fighting troops so the attack gets through at all. The Engineering technique from Special research and the Athanor skill Wallbreaker make your rams stronger; on the defender's side, Engineering technique and Foundation Lore hold against them (see Siege: rams and catapults).

Each stage is researched once per castle and adds its bonus to every unit of this type in that castle. Choose your laboratory level and world above and the research times adjust.
